Variations in the origin of iliolumbar artery with its clinical significance

Introduction: The Iliolumbar artery mainly arises from the posterior division of internal iliac artery. It extends oblique superiorly and laterally in front sacroiliac joint lumbosacral trunk. crosses obturator nerve external vessels & reaches medial edge psoas major. aim our study was to know origin variability This helps prevent any iatrogenic injury during various surgeries. Materials Methods: 50 formalin-fixed adult human pelvic halves with known sex were procured Department Anatomy, Medical College, Baroda. Site Artery identified. Results: In current study, we observed that IIA 52%, 38% trunk artery, 4% single division, 6% absent. Conclusion: variable origins ILA different branches should be taken into account surgical procedures involving lower abdominal region so as modify tactics undesired hemorrhagic complications.
